A Spring visit
Minterne Magna Gardens in Dorset.
At this time of the year new growth is well on the way and there is
colour everywhere you look.
A lovely National Trust village with Lacock Abbey the home of
William Fox Talbot who contributed to the invention of photography.
A visit to the World famous chocolate factory and the Cadbury World Experience.
See a small part of the factory production line, early days of chocolate, decorating chocolate, chocolate egg production, the 4D experience (No pictures as it is a film) and a walk around the site.
Compton Acres Gardens
These gardens are only two miles from your Host's home in Poole, Dorset.
The gardens situated in a valley are colourful all the year round and have a very wide variety of plants.
Well worth a visit if you are in the Poole area.

The Bridport Hat Festival 2015
This is the sixth Hat Festival and I understand it gets bigger every year.
A great day out with plenty of hats of every description on offer.
It was also Bridport Market Day and the two events make this a must go to
event in Dorset.
The Dorset County Show 2015
The show that shows what Dorset is all about from rural craft to modern farm machinery, live stock, horse events, trade stands, home produce and much, much more.
Lulworth Castle & House, Dorset
A look at this castle that suffered a serious fire in October 1929.
The castle is now under long term restoration.
Royal Naval Cordite Factory, Holton Heath, Poole
A special visit to the factory, now closed, to celebrate its Centenary Year.
The factory was built at the behest of Winston Churchill in 1915 initially
to provide the Home Fleet with essential cordite propellant and then
continued to serve the British Navy up to 1957 when the factory closed.
Your Host was very keen to visit this site as it is due for redevelopment and
much of the old buildings will be swept away and replaced by modern units.
It is also of interest as your Host's grandmother worked at the factory during WW2.
The Somerset Carnivals 2015 - Shepton Mallet.
Your Host's third visit to the Somerset Carnival in three years.
Yet again the carts were spectacular and covered all kinds of subjects as can be seen from the pictures.
A two hour non stop show interspersed with individual acts all of a very high standard.
This carnival is well worth seeing and I am finding you can come back
year after year and still be amazed at the ingenuity and very hard work
put in by all who take part in this show.

A Spring Walk 2016
We walk from Coy Pond, Branksome, Poole, Dorset to Bournemouth
by the side of the River Bourne that flows through the Upper Gardens to Bournemouth Pier.
See Spring growth of plants, bushes and trees.
We fly high on the Bournemouth tethered balloon that gives excellent
views of Bournemouth and the coast, East to the Isle of Wight and West
to Sandbanks and Old Harry Rocks.
A look at some well-known buildings in Bournemouth and a Good Friday treat of ice cream.
Your Host sees the changes to the GPO building where he started work in 1959.
Compton Organ, Pavilion Theatre, Bournemouth
The Compton organ was especially built in 1929 for instillation in the, then,
new town theatre - The Pavilion.
The organ is getting on for 90 years old and upkeep of the organ is financed via
subscriptions and local concerts.

Three National Trust Properties
Basildon Park, near Reading, Berkshire.
A lovely Georgian mansion restored by the late Lord & Lady Lliffe with
Greys Court, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
A Tudor manor house with lovely gardens.
Nuffield Place, Huntercombe, near Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.
The home of the late William Morris, Lord Nuffield of Morris Motors fame.
The house is early twentieth century and 99% of items on display in the
property was purchased by Lord and Lady Nuffield.
For one of the richest men of his time, the house is quite small.
Sir Edward Heath's House in Salisbury, Wiltshire
Arundells was Sir Edward Heath's house in Salisbury after he retired
The house is opposite the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral and
commands wonderful views of the Cathedral from the front aspect.
To the rear is a two acre garden that reaches down to the famous
Salisbury water meadows.
A very interesting house that is full of memorabilia from Sir Edward's
early life in the army through his political career and as
Prime Minister from 1970 to 1974.
His many interests from yachting to music are all on display with ornaments, pictures and paintings.
There were excellent guides in most room who had an intimate
knowledge of Sir Edward and all items in the house rooms.
The garden in Spring was delightful.
Well worth a visit if you are in Salisbury.
Forde - Cricket - Kingston
Three West Country house visits.
Forde Abbey in Dorset has extensive superb gardens with many
features including a fountain similar to the Geneva fountain, although
not as high.
Cricket St. Thomas House set in rolling Somerset countryside with
lovely grounds and walks.
The complex is built around the church of St. Thomas, hence the
Kingston Lacy House in Dorset is a National Trust property again with extensive gardens and grounds.
Mudeford Wood Community Centre
Fete Day 11 June 2016
A chance to show off BSA Bantams at a local fete.
This was a charity event to help raise funds for the centre with various stand,
acts and all sorts of interesting things to see and do.

Oakham Treasures Revisited
My second visit to this past times museum just so I could catch up on
the many things I did not see on my first visit.

This museum is the type of place it will not be difficult to visit many
times as on each excursion it is possible to discover many things not seen before.

rain on the previous day.
It is very pleasing to see so many animals and associated events at the show.

The Somerset Carnivals 2016 - Shepton Mallet
Your Host's fourth year attending the carnival and as usual the
spectacle is mind blowing.
Every entry takes a year to put together weather large or small
and the ingenuity in ideas and construction is limitless.
The music, lighting and subjects are amazing and the people who
take part are real STARS.
The carnival then moves onto Wells and we take a brief look at the
small fair that will be part of the carnival.
